Most double early tulip bulbs are shorter than the late flowering peony doubles. Indeed, Aveyron only reach to a height of 35cm but they are not diminished in their full bloom. Large flowers packed with colourful petals. Aveyron is a strong pink that fades towards the tips. Accented by green stripes.
Plant in autumn with other double tulips in garden beds or pots for an extravagant and colourful mix.
Can you leave tulips in pots?
Some tulips will manage to reflower in pots, but be aware that pots can quickly run out of moisture and nutrients. Double flowering tulip bulbs need to be large to give you a good display and it is unlikely that Aveyron will last for more than one season.
Tulip bulbs are fully hardy and need cold weather. The activate the growth hormone tulips should have at least 8 weeks in temperatures below 5ºC. Once they have flowered they split into many smaller bulbs which may not be big enough to flower the next year.
