Narcissus Recurvus (Pheasant Eye) is a beautiful and fragrant variety of daffodil bulb. This heirloom variety has been popular for centuries and is known for its star-shaped, white petals and yellow cup with a red rim. The petals are elegantly recurved and the center cup has a pleasant, sweet scent. The small cup resembles a Pheasant's Eye. One of the very last daffodils to flower in spring, it is worth the wait.
The bulbs of this narcissus have a distinctive hooked neck. There are quite a small bulb in comparison to many of the yellow trumpet daffodils. Choose a location that receives full sun or partial shade, with well-draining soil. Dig holes that are about 12cm deep and plant the bulbs with the neck end facing up.
Narcissus Recurvus requires moderate watering during its growing season, which is typically in the spring. Water the bulbs when the soil is dry to the touch, but avoid overwatering. It can be a good idea to fertilise the bulbs after planting, and again in the spring when the leaves begin to emerge.
After the flowers have bloomed, leave the foliage to die back naturally. This helps the bulbs to store energy for the next growing season. If you want to tidy up the area, you can cut back the foliage once it has turned yellow and withered away.
