• Tulips the jewels of spring

Tulipa_DordogneIt has been a very good spring, cool enough to prolong the flowering period of the bulbs, but then like at Easter you suddenly get a hot spell and fear the flowers will be over too quickly, but not this year I have daffodils still in flower Bridal Crown is still performing along with the Jonquilla's, and the Tulips are like beautiful jewels shining bright.

Dordogne has been beautiful the wind could not break or bend it, the colour is classic claret rose which fades to a beautiful orange this has amazed me I thought the colour would look at best ok but it has stood out for the last three weeks and the wonderful Menton never lets me down such a proud tulip with a small orange edge that turns a lovely shade of pink, Mariette was also been very good although she has bowed a little she glows in the sunlight.

I planted these with the beautiful Jan Reus, although the growers say is Chrysanthemum red it is far more than that, it has such a beautiful depth of colour; deep and mysterious, it pulled everything together with a dash of Queen of Night and Cairo.
