How to plant eucomises

Also known as pineapple flowers, eucomises produce impressive spikes of open star-shaped flowers topped with distinctive pineapple-like tufts of leaves. Held on unusual stems that can sometimes be speckled purple, these eye-catching perennials are fabulous planted in bold groups in the sunny border, rockery or container. They also make great companions for other perennials such as zantedeschias.

Plant around 10-15 cm deep in well-drained, fertile, humus rich soil in full sun— allowing around 3-5 bulbs per square meter. Provide mulch in severe winters.

Always unpack on arrival and store in a cool place until ready to plant.

Potential problems, pests and diseases:

Generally, eucomises do not suffer from any serious diseases or pest problems.
