Native to a variety of scrub and rocky habitats commonly found in temperate Europe, Asia and America, philadelphuses are vigorous deciduous shrubs producing delicate white scented flowers and dark green leaves. Easy to grow, they require little attention and will be at home in any garden. Try planting with eryngiums or heucheras.
Plant in any moderately fertile soil in full sun or partial shade. Apply a balanced fertiliser regularly during growth.
Philadelphuses are supplied in 9 cm pots. Always unpack on arrival and store in a cool place until ready to plant.
Potential problems, pests and diseases:
Generally, philadelphuses do do not suffer from any serious diseases or pest problems.
