Hellebores, also known as Christmas Roses, announce the start of a new year, bringing much needed colour to the winter garden. These perennial plants have beautiful saucer shaped single or double flowers in a range of colours. The flowers tend to hang down and you can sometimes miss the beauty. If you can, put a mirror tile on the soil so that when you walk past, the flowers will be shining up at you.
Plant with perennials like Pulmonaria or spring bulbs like Snowdrops, Scilla and Puschkinia, Dwarf Iris and Crocus to bring the late winter spring garden to life.
Take care when handling Helleborous as the sap can irritate the skin. Hellebores should never be eaten.
