Poppy (Papaver)
More infoOriental poppies have a glamour all of their own. Their papery flowers are held above stiff hairy stems and the leaves have a bristly feel. Poppes will increase from their tap root and provide years of colour. These pretty perennial plants flower in early summer and bring lots of colour to the garden.
As the foliage dies back there will be a gap in the border you can plant geraniums, nepata, campanula’s or dahlias. Cut them hard back after flowering to get a second flush of flowers in late summer.
