Description

Has Tulip Slawa surpassed its parent strain of Gavota in popularity? Gavota has been such an iconic tulip for a very long time with its distinctive maroon and yellow markings. Tulip Slawa has inherited the markings but created a much more subtle and potentially useable flower when mixing with other colours.

The key to mixing flowers

  • Choose colours that harmonise
  • Look carefully at the flowering time
  • Select taller tulips and lift the bulbs if you are cutting them
  • Mix groups such as double and single tulips to give a variety of textures and shapes

Tulip Slawa is a triumph tulip. It will flower in the middle of spring in late April along with other triumph tulips.

It has a long stem of 40cm or more and sits nicely in the centre of beds or as part of a large container display.

Plant tulips in well draining soil. The bulbs do not like to sit in water over winter. You can add grit to your soil. We prefer a blend of compost, sand and topsoil for a healthy mix.

Position in full sunlight, although they will look amazing in dappled sunlight through the sparse and emerging canopy of trees.

Tulips are ideal for planting in the garden border, container, rockery or small pot, their luscious jewel like colours will bring the spring garden to life. Tulips come in a wide selection of heights, shapes and sizes.
