Delivery: From end August

Allium schubertii features original umbels of starry mallow purple florets, gracefully held at the top of sturdy stems.

Also known as tumbleweed onion, this heirloom variety naturally occurring in the eastern Mediterranean region will be sure to turn heads in the late spring and early summer garden. Particularly striking planted in bold groups, this recipient of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit will also look sensational scattered amongst grasses and low-growing hardy perennials in sunny borders and wild meadows where it will happily naturalise. Reminiscent of sparkles frozen mid-explosion, its unusual blooms are fabulous featured in fresh and dried flower bouquets; they are also magnets for pollinators!

Heirloom Allium classified 1896

Alliums and their decorative seedheads are a great way to bring interest to the autumn and winter garden, whilst also providing wildlife with a much needed source of food and shelter during this challenging time of the year. Last but not least, they offer the added benefit of being deer and rabbit resistant!
